About Lin and Larry Pardey
Lin and Larry Pardey have now been cruising on board their own boats, racing, delivering, and repairing other people's boats for more than 44 years. After west-to-east and east-to-west circumnavigations, and voyages to more than 75 countries, they have a breadth of knowledge that few other boating authors possess. Most of the voyaging has been done on an earn-as-you-go budget that could be well within the reach of the majority of those whose dream is to set sail. The Pardeys' strengths are neatly symbolized by the boats they have built. Each one is romantically traditional, with swooping sheerlines, and is completely dependent on the wind. And yet each boat carries the best, strongest, and most seamanlike gear. Like their vessels, the Pardeys' writings are founded on a marriage of the spirit of romantic adventure and the practical, up-to-date seamanship that keeps them and their boats safe. Their motto? Go small, go simple, but go now!

Seraffyn's Oriental Adventure
A tale of adventures, as two young
dreamers continue their voyaging on board their self-built
24'4" cutter. They cross the exotic sea that spawned Homer’s
tales of Ulysses’ Odyssey, then sail through the strife torn
Red Sea and across the typhoon tossed waters of the Bay of
Bengal.
In this book, fourth of the
Seraffyn series, the Pardeys have reached a turning point in
their lives–halfway around the world, eight years into a
meandering voyage. Their routes had always been determined
by the need to find the work to support their cruising
life-style or the desire to see an island spoken of by some
favorite writer. Now they have to decide whether to continue
eastward, or turn back westward and complete the circle with
a return to the place they once called home.

REVIEWERS COMMENTS
Serraffyn’s Oriental Adventure is the last (and possibly the best) in the series. Jam-packed with high adventure, this book is equally crammed with good information on seamanship, planning, companionship, and sensitivities to people. -- Robin Roberts, The Tiller, 1986
Much of this book is about storms. Those contemplating anything more difficult than an armchair voyage ought to buy this book. Most people faced with such a situation sincerely believe they will die. Most don’t, but knowing how to make oneself reasonably comfortable throughout the ordeal is a blessing not to be missed. -- Stephen L Petranek, Washington Post, 1985
The best part of Seraffyn’s journey is the storytelling. Even when nothing exciting happens aboard Seraffyn, Lin Pardey makes you feel as though you missed something infinitely special and awe-inspiring. -- Michael Conant, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 1986
There is a compelling and endearing charm about their books, as well as a solid underlay of practical guidance and advise based on thousands of miles of ocean sailing in all parts of the world...As they have often remarked, it is the people one meets who make cruising so interesting. On this particular sailing stint, they seem to have met an even more attractive, interesting selection of humanity than ever. -- Lloyds List, UK, 1985
